Beach swimmer humiliated by letter demanding she stop getting nude in change room
A woman has received a shocking letter about her changing room act and now claims she has been “body shamed”.
A woman says she has been left feeling humiliated after a surf lifesaving club sent her a letter demanding she stop going nude in the change rooms.
Nada Pantle goes for a morning swim at Terrigal Beach every day but has now been told she needs to wear a swimming costume while she showers.
The Central Coast Surf Life Saving Club sent a letter to her home saying she had breached the clubs nudity policy but didn’t go into detail as to when or how she had done it.
“The Terrigal Surf Club has received a report advising that you have breached the no nudity clause that can be found in the Child Safe Policy,” the letter read.
“Should you continue to ignore the procedures/rules, you will be subject to disciplinary action, and/or including termination of your membership.”
When she went into the change rooms next, signs were plastered all over the club walls that read in bold red lettering: “No nudity in change rooms”.
“I was so anxious I handed my resignation in … that‘s what the change rooms are for, they’re for getting changed,” she told Nine News.
She said he felt the letter implied she had “done something sexual”.
“At some point, you’ve got to take your clothes off to get your other clothes on. That’s why we have change rooms,” she told ABC.
“I almost feel like I’ve been body shamed.”
Anyone caught breaching the policy and changing nude inside the changeroom will be called before the club’s disciplinary committee.
Surf Life Saving Australia implemented a nationwide policy in May 2022 that requires all members to adhere to their child safe policy.
Nudity is mentioned twice in the policy including “observing appropriate dress standards when children and young people are present – such as no exposure to any adult nudity or undressing.”
All fifteen Central Coast clubs could soon have the ‘no nudity’ signage in their change rooms.
Ms Pantle said she is hoping the club can come to a compromise and has thrown her support behind a plan to split the change rooms by age group.
