Australian teenager on life support with Covid-19
A 15-year-old boy is in a grave situation after being hospitalised with Covid-19 and other health conditions. He was ineligible for a vaccine.
A teenage boy from southwestern Sydney has been placed on life support after being admitted to hospital with Covid-19.
The 15-year-old has “significant” underlying health conditions, including pneumococcal meningitis. Due to his age, he was not eligible for any covid vaccination.
He is reportedly in a grave situation.
At a press conference on Sunday, NSW chief health officer Kerry Chant confirmed that a teenager with Covid-19 has been hospitalised.
“I can confirm that there is someone admitted to hospital that is 15 and that the cause of their admission, while they are Covid positive, is related to another health condition,” Dr Chant said.
“The family have agreed that we can indicate that he has pneumococcal meningitis.”
Dr Chant said she will chase up the vaccination issues with the pneumococcal vaccine.

It comes as NSW recorded 415 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases and four deaths in the 24 hours to Saturday 8pm.
The deaths include an unvaccinated woman in her 50s, a female in her 70s who had recently received the vaccination, an unvaccinated man in his 80s and a woman in her 80s who had underlying health conditions and had been vaccinated.
Multiple suburbs in western and southwestern Sydney are among the areas of “most concern”.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the suburbs of Blacktown, Mount Druitt, Marayong, Merrylands, Auburn and Guildford are showing a considerable growth in cases.
Cases in Dubbo and Walgett and sewage detections in Bourke have also sparked alarm.
Ms Berejiklian has urged people in those areas not to leave home “unless you absolutely have to”.
