A major Western Sydney venue will continue to refuse unvaccinated people, despite official restrictions easing in NSW from today.

Unvaccinated people will now be allowed to attend most pubs, restaurants, gyms and other public spaces and will not require a mask to do so.

However, chief executive of Wenty Leagues in Wentworthville, Glenn Kovacs told 2GB his club has implemented its own policies in order to protect staff members and other patrons.

“We keep hearing...that as far as the virus goes that it’s very transmissible from unvaccinated people,” Kovacs said.

“We were shut down for 14 weeks and we don’t want to go down that road again.”

Kovacs said the club’s board of directors had assessed medical advice and had the majority backing of existing club members in its decision.

Regulars at Wenty Leagues were overwhelmingly supportive of the decision not to allow the unvaccinated, according to Kovacs.

According to Kovacs, his venue is just one of many taking similar steps.

Despite making up less than seven per cent of Australians, those choosing not to get vaccinated have remained a vocal minority.

“Everyone’s got the right to their own decision - we’ve got to look after the majority,” Kovacs explained.

He added that staff and club members had expressed their own concerns should unvaccinated people be allowed in.

“They tell us if we allow unvaccinated patrons into the club, they won’t be coming back,” he said.

Kovacs added that legal advice had been sought prior to continuing to refuse unvaccinated people.
