A man has died after being accidentally shot by his son during a hunting trip on a regional property.

A man has died after being accidentally shot during a hunting trip with his son in the NSW Central Tablelands.

The man, 69, and his son, 47, were hunting game on a rural property along Campbells River Road, Black Springs, 20kms from Oberon on Friday, April 18 when the older man was accidentally shot in the shoulder.

Police officers were told the man and his son were securing their firearms into the back of their ute when a round discharged from the son’s weapon.

“Both men had been shooting game on the property,” a NSW Police statement read.

Paramedics treated the man for a gun shot wound to the right shoulder.

He was flown to Westmeads Hospital in a critical condition, where he died on Sunday, April 28.

Police established a crime scene, with officers attached to Chifley Police Station launching Strike Force Arthurs to investigate the incident.

No charges have been laid.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
