Young Sydney ute driver charged with hitting a cyclist on motorway

A young Sydney driver has been charged for dangerous driving after his ute allegedly hit a cyclist in the south east of the city.

A young man has been charged by New South Wales police after allegedly hitting a cyclist in Sydney’s south east on Saturday.

NSW police have laid charges against a 21-year-old man after his white Ford ute allegedly collided with a cyclist on Southern Cross Drive in Eastlakes at around 2.40am.

The 57-year-old male cyclist was treated by paramedics and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious condition.

Police were quick to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, and the young driver was taken to hospital before being taken to Mascot Police Station.

The driver has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and had his licence suspended.

He was granted bail and is expected to appear in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Monday.
