Wollongong Police investigate animal cruelty at Mount Ousley
Police are searching for a person allegedly responsible for throwing a sick dog off a cliff.
Police are appealing for information about an alleged act of animal cruelty after a dog was found at the bottom of a cliff near Woolongong.
An investigation is underway after a man was bushwalking near Clive Bissell Drive at Mount Ousley heard a dog yelping about 8.30am on Sunday.
The man searched the area and found an upside-down kennel at the base of an escarpment.
An injured Australian Bulldog was inside the kennel suffering from poor health and was severely underweight.
Officers from Wollongong Police District, Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, along with the SES, conducted a rescue operation to retrieve the dog.
It’s believed the kennel had been thrown off the cliff in the early hours of Sunday.
The dog was taken to a local vet, however, was euthanised due to his poor condition and injuries.
Police have seized the kennel to undergo forensic examination.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed alleged suspicious activity in the area or anyone with dashcam footage from the area to contact police.
