Wollongong body find leads to arrest
A man was taken to Wollongong Police Station three hours after the discovery of a body on the stairwell of the local train station.
A man’s body has been found in the stairwell of the carpark at a major train station.
NSW Police were called to Station Street in Wollongong at 7.20am on Sunday after a man’s body was found at the station.
The dead man has not been formally identified, police say they believe he was a 68-year-old local.
Three hours later at 10.40am police arrested a 37-year-old man.
No charges have been laid, but the arrested man remains at Wollongong Police Station as the investigation continues.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the dead man’s identity and cause of death.
A crime scene has been established at the station.

The Daily Telegraph reported the body was found on a stairwell by railway staff on the first level of the west side of the station’s car park, an area where people are known to frequently sleep rough.
“Officers established a crime scene while detectives from Wollongong PD commenced inquiries, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad,” a NSW Police statement reads.
“Anyone with information or (who) was in the area at the time is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
