Western Sydney man charged with abusing baby girl and assaulting woman
A Sydney man has been arrested over the alleged assault of a woman and abuse of a baby girl who was taken to hospital with disturbing injuries.
A Western Sydney man will face court today after being charged with abusing a three-month-old baby girl and assaulting the child’s mother.
The baby was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead on December 30, 2018 with significant injuries all over her body.
Police were notified the infant had suffered significant injuries to her head, throat and leg.
She has since been released from hospital and alternative care arrangements have been made.
An investigation was launched by detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad who also received reports the child’s mother had been injured by the same man accused of abusing the baby.
As a result of extensive inquiries, a 22-year-old man was arrested at a Silverwater facility just before 10am yesterday.
Police will allege the man injured the baby at a home in Mt Druitt between October and December 2018 and did not seek medical attention.
He is then accused of assaulting a 27-year-old woman and holding her against her will in the same home in June 2019.
He was charged with numerous offences, including causing grievous bodily harm, kidnapping with intent to commit serious indictable offences, not providing for a child and causing danger or serious injury.
The man has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court today.
