A WEDDING guest allegedly had his finger bitten off to the first knuckle by a gatecrasher in Sydney’s west at the weekend.

About 30 people were celebrating at Court Tavern in Campbelltown when a man walked into the venue and allegedly began to steal handbags from a table.

A 47-year-old man intervened and a violent scuffle broke out and the intruder, 42, allegedly bit the tip of the guest’s finger off, severing it to the first knuckle.

The man was rushed to Liverpool Hospital but the tip of his finger off couldn’t be sewed back on. Alan Williams told The Daily Telegraph his uncle was the victim.

“He was a complete random that walked off the street, down through the back pokies and got in to our private function ... we had it all rented out.”

It wasn’t the only drama to occur — a brawl erupted outside the venue, which forced police to use capsicum spray on a number of people.

Police said they were called to the wedding reception just after 9.30pm.

Officers from Campbelltown Local Area Command attended the location and arrested the 42-year-old man.

A police statement said he was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm. He was refused bail and will appear at Campbelltown Local Court today.
