Two men charged with murder of Newcastle man Anthony Nugent

Two men have been charged after a man was allegedly murdered when shot on his front doorstep.

Two men have been charged with the murder of a 57-year-old man who was allegedly shot dead at his front door.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Fowler St, Hamilton South in Newcastle, after reports of an alleged shooting on September 6 last year.

Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, Mr Nugent died at the scene.

Following an investigation as part of Strike Force Alcheringa, police executed a number of search warrants, with items – including firearms – relevant to the investigation seized for forensic examination.

NSW Police arrested a 26-year-old man at a property on Station Street, Waratah, about 8.45am on Tuesday and charged him soon after with murder.

He was also charged with the supply pistol to person unauthorised to possess it.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.

Police also arrested a 32-year-old man in the drive-through of a restaurant on Harold Street, Macquarie Fields on Wednesday.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Thursday.
