Two men charged after rocks, bottles allegedly thrown at police from Parramatta balcony
Riot squad police were called to a unit in western Sydney overnight after reports missiles were being thrown from a 15th floor balcony.
Two men have been charged after allegedly pelting police, pedestrians and motor vehicles with broken bottles and food from a 15th floor balcony in western Sydney overnight.
Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command were called to a high-rise apartment building on Church Street, Parramatta at about 9pm on Thursday to investigate reports of projectiles being thrown at motor vehicles and pedestrians.
Police attending the scene saw broken bottles, potatoes, fruit, eggs and coconuts on the road near the apartment building.
Police will allege that while they were conducting a search of the area, rocks were thrown in their direction. None of the officers were struck by the projectiles.
Officers from the public order and riot squad attended and arrested two men, aged 18 and 19, in front of the Church Street building.
Police searched a unit within the building, seizing a mobile phone as well as discovering rocks and an empty egg carton.
The two men were taken to Parramatta police station and charged with throwing a missile at a police officer executing duty (no actual bodily harm), intentionally throwing an object at a vehicle or vessel, destroying or damaging property and two counts of common assault.
They were granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday, February 24.
