A brazen daylight stabbing of a woman in Dover Heights has shone a light on one of Sydney’s most exclusive and most colourful neighbourhoods.

Police allege a woman was answering the door to her $4.5 million home in Dover Heights when she was stabbed in the chest by Matthew Ramsay around 12.30pm on August 8.

Only a few doors down from the house is the waterfront property of Fadi Ibrahim, the younger brother of known Kings Cross kingpin John Ibrahim.

While the member of the infamous Ibrahim family wasn’t at home at the time of the stabbing, he told NCA NewsWire he had trouble accessing his home because of the police cordons on Monday.

The Dover Heights street was packed with three police cars and two ambulances, but it was nothing compared to the frenzy which occurred two streets away at Melissa Caddick’s mansion.

The $6 million home has undergone renovations since the conwoman was visited by investigators from the Australian Security and Investment Commission in 2020, but neighbours no doubt remember the constant activity in the suburb.

Dover Heights is again the subject of much speculation and interest this week in the aftermath of the stabbing attack on the woman.

Police are still investigating the motivation for the bloody attack

While the motivation for the bloody attack is uncertain, Mr Ramsay had reportedly been suffering declining mental health for years when he allegedly stabbed the woman in the chest.

A friend told NCA NewsWire the 46-year-old had tried to deal with his alcohol issues in rehabilitation.

Despite his issues, the friend said no one expected Mr Ramsay to become violent or hurt anyone.

After intervention from a good Samaritan distracted her attacker, the woman managed to wrestle the knife away from the man and throw it onto the grass before running inside.

The mother-of-two was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment but has since been discharged. Her family confirmed she is recovering at home.

“(She’s) doing as best she can,” a relative told the media on Tuesday.

From across the street, a neighbour said he saw a woman being wheeled out to the ambulance with her arm in a sling and covered in blood.

He and another resident, said it was “all happening” on the usually tranquil street on Monday afternoon. However, they said neighbours weren’t worried by the bloody attack.

“Everyone’s a tiny bit more tense, but still pretty normal,” the neighbour said.

The neighbour said residents were reassured by the fact the victim and the alleged stabber knew each other.

“It wasn’t a random attack. So if it was like a robbery or something, people would be more nervous,” he said.

Mr Ramsay is currently in custody on remand after being charged with causing wound/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder. He will return to court in October.
