Teenager dead in crash after police pursuit in Bourke, NSW

A 17-year-old has died and two other teenage boys are in a serious condition after their allegedly stolen car crashed during a police pursuit.

A 17-year-old boy has died after an allegedly stolen car being pursued by police crashed in northwest NSW.

Police allege the boy was one of four teenagers who fled the scene of a robbery at a Narromine service station in a stolen car at about 11.15pm on Thursday.

The vehicle was tracked down about 15km east of Nyngan on the Mitchell Highway, with police initially pursuing the vehicle but soon calling off the chase.

Officers reinitiated the pursuit at about 12.45am, deploying road spikes on the Mitchell Highway at Coolabah and Sydney Road at Bourke.

Police say the vehicle continued through the small town of Bourke before crashing and rolling on Weir Road at about 1.30am.

Officers immediately rendered assistance to the four teenagers in the car, but a 17-year-old occupant died at the scene.

A 14-year-old was flown to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a serious condition.

A 13-year-old boy remains in a serious condition and a 16-year-old is in a stable condition at Bourke Hospital.

A crime scene has been established, with specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attending to examine the scene.

A critical incident investigation team from Oxley Police District will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will also be subject to an independent review.
