Teenage girls charged after allegedly robbing, punching people on Sydney train

Five teenage girls - one as young as 12 - are alleged to have committed violent crimes on a train against other females.

Five girls have been charged after allegedly going on an assault and robbery rampage on a Sydney train on Wednesday.

Police will allege the girls – aged 12, two aged 13 and two aged 14 – robbed two teens and a woman in separate incidents on the train in Sydney’s south and inner-west.

Police will allege the five girls approached two 15-year-old girls on the train going to Sutherland from Kirrawee about 7pm, demanding money and then assaulting them.

The group is also alleged to have stolen their handbags and mobile phones.

The 15-year-olds suffered minor injuries.

Police will allege the five girls then continued on that train to Sydenham Station, where they assaulted and robbed a 22-year-old woman.

It is alleged the group stole the older woman’s phone and bag while repeatedly punching and kicking her head and stomach. Her glasses were also smashed.

The 22-year-old woman left the train at Town Hall Station and was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to St Vincent’s Hospital, where she was treated for bruising and swelling of her face.

Following an investigation by officers from the Sutherland command, the five girls were arrested at Wolli Creek Station.

They were taken to Sutherland police station and each was charged with three counts of robbery in company.

The five girls were all refused bail and are due to appear before a children’s court today.
