Police were called to the woman’s home in Casino, northern NSW, just before 3am after reports a woman had been assaulted by an intruder.

Officers were told the 63-year-old woman, who lived alone, had been asleep when a stranger allegedly entered her bedroom, threatened and sexually abused her, then fled through the back door.

The woman was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment and underwent a sexual assault investigation kit, while police established a crime scene at her home.
