Sydney rap group clash with police while filming music video
An amateur Sydney rap group have been involved in a violent clash with police after a music video they were filming spiralled out of control.
A music video being filmed by an amateur rap group turned into a violent clash between the rappers and police in Sydney’s southwest over the weekend.
At about 6pm on Saturday, police were called to a carpark behind a shopping complex on Dobell Rd, Claymore following reports about 40 males had gathered there.
When they arrived they found the rap group, believed to be the Claymore 046, filming a music video.
Footage posted to social media shows members donning face masks and brandishing knives and bats as props for filming.
Multiple people were also seen drinking alcohol.
The Claymore 406 group have been spruiking the release of their new track to their almost 2000 Instagram followers.
Officers made the decision to move the group on but as they were speaking with some of the members, a bottle of beer was allegedly thrown towards police by an unknown male.
The group left a short time later and police continued to monitor them at Dimeny Park, with no issues reported before they started to leave the area at around 7pm.
However, a short time later police went back to the same car park to find a group of males had gathered there again, with members becoming aggressive at attending officers.
It is not suggested the people pictured in the filming that took place earlier were involved in the incident.
Footage of the incident shows people screaming obscenities at officers and others throwing items at police as they attempted to control the crowd.
It is alleged some of the males threw lit flares at officers.
“The males, believed to be aged between their teens and mid-20s, allegedly began shouting abuse and throwing bottles of beer at police,” NSW Police said.
“When a number of the males approached and threatened police, OC spray was deployed in the direction of the group causing the group to disperse and leave the location.”
It is understood no police were injured in the confrontation and there was no damage to police vehicles.
Officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad, South-West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad, and the Dog Unit were called to the scene.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly throwing a lit flare at police but was later released following further inquiries.
Some of the other youths were also returned home by police to prevent any further incidents.
Police are investigating the incident and anyone with information is urged to come forward.
