‘Suspicious’ blaze extinguished by occupant, police launch probe

Police have launched a probe into a “suspicious” house fire after an occupant battled to extinguish the blaze.

Police are treating a house fire at a property in Sydney’s west overnight as suspicious.

Officers were called to the home on Francis St in Strathfield about 11.30pm on Monday following reports of a fire.

Upon arrival, police were told the occupant was able to extinguish the blaze, which caused only minor damage to the balcony.

No one was injured and a crime scene has since been established as police investigate the blaze, which is being treated as suspicious.

Anyone with dashcam footage or information about the incident is urged to contact Auburn police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
