A support worker has been charged after allegedly leaving a wheelchair-bound teenage client unattended in a car for an hour at Hurstville.

Members of the public called police at about 10.30am on Monday when they spotted a teenager allegedly locked inside a Toyota HiAce in a carpark on Forest Road in the southern Sydney suburb.

Police will allege the 16-year-old was left alone in the van for an hour, with the vehicle’s airconditioning on at the time.

Following inquiries by officers from St George Police Area Command, police attended a care home in Gymea.

A 24-year-old support worker spoke with police. Police then issued the man a court attendance notice for leaving a child/young person in a motor vehicle causing emotional distress as well as a child not being adequately supervised.

The man is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on February 16.
