Police have released CCTV footage of two break-ins in Sydney last year which they believe were carried out by the same two men.

Police established Strike Force Karabin to investigate an armed robbery of a hotel in Sydney’s west and a separate aggravated break and enter into a supermarket in Sydney’s northwest last year.

Surveillance footage released by police shows an armed robbery of a hotel on Rooty Hill Rd in Plumpton on Sunday November 21, 2021.

Police were told two men – one of whom was armed with a handgun – threatened numerous hotel employees and patrons before stealing a cash register.

They were seen fleeing the area in a grey Holden Caprice, which had previously been stolen. The men were gone by the time police arrived at 4.30pm.

The staff and patrons who were inside the hotel at the time of the robbery were not physically injured, but Detective Chief Inspector Paul Smith from the Robbery and Serious Crimes Squad said they were traumatised by the robbery.

“The incident was very traumatic and terrifying to the patrons particularly and the staff working at the hotel at the time of the robbery,” he said.

“They don‘t expect to be confronted by males armed with firearms when they’re going about their usual business.”

Police also released CCTV images from the aggravated break and enter into a supermarket in Dural, which occurred the following day.

Before 1am on November 22 last year, police believe the same two men forced their way into a locked supermarket on Allan Way in Dural.

A lone female staff member was inside the store as the men forced their way into a secured cupboard and stole a number of packets of cigarettes before fleeing. She was not injured and the men are not believed to have been armed in the second break-in.

Police are appealing for help identifying the two men.

Mr Smith said detectives believed the same two offenders committed both robberies.

“We’ve been investigating the incidents together for quite some time,” he said.

“Certainly there are similarities based on the descriptions and the clothing worn in each incident.”

More than six months after the break-ins, police are appealing for assistance from anyone who can help identify the two men in the surveillance images.

“Police are putting a lot of resources into identifying these males and arresting them as soon as possible,” Mr Smith said.
