Police issue alert after inmate James White, 21, escapes Cooma correctional facility

The 21-year-old inmate allegedly fled from a NSW prison on Monday afternoon. He was last seen wearing a hi-vis jacket and light coloured clothes.

Police have issued an urgent warning after an inmate allegedly escaped the Cooma Correctional Centre in NSW’s south.

James White, 21, was last seen at the minimum and medium-security jail on Monday about 4.40pm.

At the time he was wearing a hi-vis orange jacket, light coloured shirt, and shorts.

Authorities believe he may be travelling to Sydney or Guildford, and has been described as being Aboriginal/ Torres Strait Islander appearance, with black hair, a light build, and being 165cm to 170cm tall.

Police attached to the Monaro Police District are now conducting inquiries to locate White.

Anybody who sights the man, has been urged to not approach him and instead contact triple-0 (000) immediately.
