Police allegedly find $1.3m worth of meth in car on Hume Highway

A man who was taking a nap in his car on the side of a busy highway has been arrested after police made a stunning discovery.

A man who was taking a nap in his car on the side of a busy NSW highway has been arrested after police allegedly found $1.3m worth of drugs hidden in bags.

Police will allege officers were patrolling the Hume Highway at Manton, near Yass, in the state’s south when they saw a car parked on an access road east of the highway about 7.50am on Sunday.

The officers found a 33-year-old man sleeping behind the wheel and woke him up to check on his welfare.

After speaking with the man, officers searched the car and allegedly found 1.3kg of methamphetamine in two large resealable bags.

It’s alleged the drugs found had an estimated potential street value of more than $1.3m.

Officers also allegedly found $16,500 in cash in the car.

These items were seized to undergo forensic examination.

The driver was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station, where he was charged with supply prohibited drug large commercial quantity and deal with proceeds of crime more than $5000.

The man was refused bail to appear at Goulburn Local Court on Monday.

Investigations continue.
