Omar Zahed shooting: Gun jam may have saved life of Tarek Zahed

New details have revealed how the brother of killed Comanchero bikie Omar Zahed survived after an amateur hit job.

A gun used to kill Comanchero bikie Omar Zahed jammed which may have saved the life of his brother, Tarek and also one of the gunmen.

New details of the shooting are revealed in the Daily Telegraph video series, The War, which delves into the gangland feud which has claimed the lives of more than a dozen people in Sydney in the past 18 months.

Two sources confirmed that one weapon failed for a few seconds by one assassin while another chased Tarek in the gym at Auburn in south west Sydney after Omar had been shot.

Tarek is the sergeant of arms of the Comanchero and his brother is also a senior member.

Despite that Tarek Zahed was shot 10 times and miraculously survived and is now recovering despite horrendous wounds to his entire body.

Both underworld sources and law enforcement officers who have seen the CCTV video have led them to believe the attempted hit was the work of amateurs.

“If that gun had not jammed, the bloke would have shot his partner,” one source said.

“Omar is shot first and then one of them runs in front the other guy chasing Tarek. That’s when the gun jams and saved him shooting the other bloke by mistake.”

Tarek’s mother and another young female relative were also at the gym at the time.

The shooting of two senior figures from the most powerful bikie gang, the Comanchero has set the underworld on edge.

Two stolen Audi cars were found set alight in Berala and Greenacre in southwest Sydney after the shooting and a Glock was grabbed from one of them before it was destroyed.

Experts told the Telegraph an “auto sear” had been attached to the firearm turning it in a fully automatic machine pistol capable of shooting more than a thousand rounds in a matter of seconds.
