The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A P-plate driver in New South Wales has been charged by police after she was caught driving 170km/h with three children in the car.

The 32-year-old woman, along with three kids under the age of seven, was driving along Yarrie Lake Road in Narrabri in NSW’s North West Slopes last night.

Two boys, aged two and seven, were in the car, one of them allegedly not wearing a seatbelt, as well as a four-month-old baby girl.

After police officers tried to pull her over, the woman allegedly fled – and during the pursuit her car allegedly clocked 170km/h in a 100km/h zone.

When she eventually slowed on the shoulder of the road, police said a man jumped out of the passenger seat and ran.

Inquiries into his whereabouts are ongoing.

The car was eventually stopped on Bridge Street and the woman was arrested. She has been charged with offences including dangerous driving and driving with unrestrained children.

The children are in the care of relatives and a child at risk notification has been made.

The woman was refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court on Friday.
