NSW Police charge man after allegedly assaulting a firefighter in North Parramatta
A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a firefighter who was helping extinguish a blaze at a unit block.
A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a firefighter following a garage blaze which forced a unit block of people to be evacuated.
Emergency crews were called to the Grouse St unit block in North Parramatta, Sydney, after reports of a fire in the garage at 2.30am on Wednesday.
All residents were safely evacuated, with only four people needing treatment by NSW Ambulance paramedics for smoke inhalation.
The four residents were then each taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.
While Fire and Rescue NSW crews were assisting residents, a 51-year-old man allegedly assaulted a firefighter.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment.
He was later charged with assault.
NSW Police confirmed a crime scene has been established as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Grose St was closed between Brickfield and Sorrell Sts and police are urging anyone who may have any information to contact Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
