Shocking security camera footage shows the moment a man is alleged to have coward punched a stranger in broad daylight with no provocation whatsoever.

Jeremy Wilton Wise, 44, has fronted court after police allege he broke another man’s jaw. Wise has been charged with one count each of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

The attack, which is alleged to have taken place on Mount Street in North Sydney on Monday night, was shockingly captured on CCTV.

The footage looks eastwards towards the Bradfield Highway, and shows a busy street, with multiple passers-by going about their evening routines.

The man alleged to be Wise is seen in a black T-shirt, black shorts and white sneakers comes into view at the bottom of the screen, walking away from the camera.

At the same time, another man in a similar outfit – but carrying a briefcase and wearing headphones – walks up the street in the opposite direction.

The pair cross paths, and without warning the man alleged to be Wise turns on his heels, s appears to approach the man in headphones before allegedly punching him.

The victim is thrown up against the wall of a building by the impact, before he slumps to the ground clutching his face as a series of onlookers rush to help.

According to police, the victim’s jaw was broken as a result of the attack.

According to police, Wise initially fled the scene, but after a physical altercation with police, was apprehended and taken to hospital where he fronted court via video feed on Wednesday.

A bystander told 9News that he “heard someone screaming” and rushed over to help.

“The guy was really in shock and you could see he was like ‘what happened,’ a witness said in relation to the victim.

Mr Wise was denied bail, and will appear in court again next week

“One-punch” laws were introduced in NSW back in 2014 after a series of high-profile attacks that saw the deaths of a number of young people made headlines nationwide throughout the early 2010s.

One high-profile case was the killing of 18-year-old Thomas Kelly in 2012, who was punched in the head by a man named Kieran Loveridge, who he had never met or even spoken to.
