New images after dead diver found near $20m of cocaine
Security images have been released as police investigate the death of a diver and discovery of more than $20m worth of cocaine.
Detectives have released images of two people as part of their investigation into a dead diver found near more than $20m of cocaine.
The shocking discovery was made on Monday morning in the port of Newcastle, with the man found unresponsive on the banks of the Hunter River close topackages containing 54kg of cocaine.
The diver is yet to be formally identified.
Now Organised Crime Squad detectives have released CCTV images of a man and a woman who they believe will be able to assist with their investigation.
The man is described as being of South American appearance, about 178cm tall and of an athletic build.
The woman is described as being of a thin build, about 150-160cm tall and has a tanned complexion with blonde/grey hair.
It comes after superyacht tour operator James “Jimmy” Blee was arrested at Cairns Airport on Wednesday and charged over his alleged role in the importation of the cocaine.
He was allegedly empting to fly to Singapore when he was stopped and arrested by police.
Detectives are expected to apply for the 62-year-old’s extradition from Queensland to NSW later on Friday.
Strike Force Groove has been established by Organised Crime Squad detectives to investigate the case, with Australian Federal Police (AFP), Australian Border Force, Northern Territory Police and Queensland Police also assisting.
Strike Force Groove’s inquiries are ongoing, which includes offshore inquiries being led by the AFP.
