A TEENAGE boy has been charged with assault after a number of students at a western Sydney high school were allegedly stabbed with a syringe.

Ambulance and police were called the Plumpton High School just before midday today.

Initial reports suggest two or three people are believed to have been pricked, however a spokesman for NSW Ambulance told news.com.au the number of students injured was eight.

Four ambulance crews were immediately sent to the school at Hyatts and Bottles Road where they found a number of students had suffered injuries to their hands and legs.

NSW Police said officers have been told a student was doing what appears to be a prank which involved a needle.

Police say the injuries are the result of a prank.

“As a result, eight teenagers received a minor needle prick,” a spokesman for the force said. “They will attend a medical centre for testing as a pre-caution.”

Police said tonight officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command arrested the 14-year-old boy at a home in Glendenning just after 6pm.

He was taken to Mount Druitt Police Station where he was charged with five counts of assault.

The boy was granted bail and will appear at a children’s court on Tuesday 6 November 2018.

It’s expected all the victims will have to undergo immediate blood tests for screening for any possible diseases transmitted from the needle.

The NSW Department of Education confirmed a student “attended school with an implement” that was used to prick others.

“The school will be taking strong disciplinary action against this student,” a spokesman said.

Police are investigating the incident, he said. Staff and students are also being offered counselling and support.
