Dramatic footage shows men arrested after allegedly assaulting female cops
Confronting footage shows two men being arrested after allegedly assaulting two female police officers over a dispute about wearing masks.
Two men have been charged after allegedly assaulting two female police officers following an argument over wearing masks inside a western Sydney shopping centre.
One of the officers suffered minor injuries.
Fairfield City Police Area Command officers were patrolling a shopping centre on Polding St, Wetherill Park at about 7.30pm on Thursday.
Two female officers stopped two men, aged 39 and 51, who were not wearing masks. When the officers asked the men to put masks on, they allegedly became aggressive.
A confrontation followed and the two officers attempted to restrain the men, but they allegedly resisted. Officers then used OC (pepper) spray.
The men were arrested and taken to Fairfield police station.
They were charged with assaulting an officer in the execution of duty, intimidating a police officer, resisting arrest, not wearing a fitted face covering in a retail/business premises and failing to comply with a public health order (COVID-19).
They were released on conditional bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court on February 8.
