One of the men fled on foot before he was arrested while the second led police on a car chase until he was stopped and handcuffed.

Both men are believed to have been found in possession of balaclavas, with a gun also seized from one of them.

A black Range Rover was later observed leaving the area under police escort about 10am.

One neighbour said she witnessed the police pursuit.

“I thought as long as police were chasing them that’s fine,” she told The Daily Telegraph.

She added she considered the street quite safe but that any incident got more attention because of the suburb’s well known residents, such as Ibrahim whose career as a King Cross nightclub boss has been made into two TV shows.

“It doesn’t matter where you live these things happen,” she said.
