“He was approached by two males who threatened harm to him, both males were armed with knives,” he said.

The 48-year-old rideshare driver was washing his car at a 24-hour car wash on Atchison Rd in the southwestern suburb of Macquarie Fields when the incident occurred.

“One male entered the man’s vehicle and drove from the scene, with the second male joining a third person on a scooter and rode away from the scene,” Mr Johnstone said.

Footage shows the driver opening the car door as one hooded man approached him, putting a barrier between himself and his attacker.
As a second hooded man approached from the other side of the car, the driver backed away and placed his hands up.
Police say the men stole the driver’s mobile phone and wallet, driving away in his grey Toyota while a third man followed on a scooter.

The rideshare driver walked to the Macquarie Fields Police Station and reported the incident. Although shaken and distressed by the incident, the man was not harmed.

Authorities believe the stolen vehicle was involved in a crash less than an hour later.

A woman called triple-0 to report she’d been involved in a head-on crash on Copperfield Dr in Ambarvale, southwest Sydney, with a car matching the description of the stolen vehicle.

Two people emerged from the car and left the scene on a scooter, the womantold police.

“As a result of that motor vehicle accident, a woman aged in her 60s was examined by NSW Ambulance with no substantial injury,” Mr Johnstone said.

Crime scenes have been established in both Macquarie Fields and Ambarvale.

The three people believed to be involved in the carjacking are on the run.
