Man, woman jailed over drug lab where police found 150 litres of meth
A man and a woman have been jailed for a combined 10 years after police found more than 150 litres of meth in a Sydney home.
A man and woman will spend a combined 10 years in jail for their role in an international syndicate that was manufacturing and importing hundreds of kilograms of methamphetamine.
A 55-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman pleaded guilty to drug manufacturing offences in July 2020 following their arrests in 2018.
The pair are the last of four people to be sentenced after the launch of Operation Sudwala, which resulted in the seizure of 621 kilograms of items containing meth.
The operation was launched to investigate a Hong Kong-based syndicate suspected of exporting large commercial quantities of the drug from Hong Kong to Australia hidden in items like yoga mats and concrete umbrella stands.
The 53-year-old woman and 55-year-old man were arrested after police found a clandestine laboratory in a search of a Beverly Hills home in July 2018.
At the time, police alleged about 150 litres of liquid methamphetamine were found on the premises, along with fabrics soaked in a substance believed to be meth.
Detectives said the laboratory was used to extract methamphetamine from the fabrics.
A further 15-17 kilograms of solid methamphetamine were found at the home, according to a media release issued by the Australian Federal Police at the time.
The 53-year-old woman was arrested following the raid, along with a 66-year-old man, and further investigations into the laboratory led to the arrest of a 55-year-old man in December 2018.
The 53-year-old woman was sentenced on Friday at the Downing Centre Court to four years and nine months in jail, with a non-parole period of two years and six months.
The 55-year-old man charged in December 2018 was also sentenced at the Downing Centre Court on Friday to five years and three months in jail, with a non-parole period of three years.
