Man to face court over alleged abuse of 12-week-old baby girl
A 20-year-old man has been arrested over the alleged abuse of a 12-week-old baby girl after the child was hospitalised with serious head injuries.
A 20-year-old man has been charged with physically abusing a baby girl in NSW’s Lake Illawarra region.
Police launched an investigation in September this year after a 12-week-old girl was brought into hospital with serious head and arm injuries.
The child has since been released from hospital and alterative care arrangements have been made for her.
A man was arrested at a unit in Warrawong at about 1pm yesterday in relation to the incident.
The 20-year-old was charged with 19 domestic violence-related offences, including reckless grievous bodily harm, 10 counts of contravene a prohibition or restriction specified in an AVO, three counts of common assault, two counts of intentionally choking a person without consent, two counts of stalking or intimidating with intent of causing fear or physical harm and destroying or damaging property.
The baby is known to the man, and police will allege he physically abused the child.
They will also allege the man physically abused a 17-year-old woman who was also known to him.
He was refused bail and is expected to appear in Wollongong Local Court today.
Anyone with concerns about suspected child abuse or exploitation is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
