A man has been stabbed multiple times in the chest at a Syndey train station.

Around 10.45pm on Thursday, a 44-year-old man and woman entered an elevator at Kingswood Railway Station.

When the doors opened to the main railway concourse, police claim a man lunged towards the 44-year-old and stabbed him repeatedly in the chest.

According to police, the two men fought before the knife-wielding attacker was able to break away. He then ran from the scene.

The victim collapsed on the road before NSW paramedics treated his stab wounds. He was transported to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police believe he knew the man who stabbed him several times.

Officers from the Nepean Police Area Command chased a man fitting the assailant’s description along the Great Western Highway, but he escaped. After the short foot pursuit, police established a perimeter around the area.

With the assistance of the PolAir helicopters and the Police Dog Unit, officers were able to track the man to an address on Rodgers St in Kingswood.

The 46-year-old man was taken to Nepean hospital before being transported to St Marys Police Station.

He was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (DV), using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and contravening a prohibition in an apprehended violence order.

The 46-year-old appeared in Penrith Local Court on Friday July 15, where he was refused bail. He will remain behind bars on remand until he returns to the same court on September 9.
