Man kidnapped and threw 75-year-old woman down embankment in Snowy Mountains: police

Police are on the hunt for a shoeless man after a woman was kidnapped and ‘viciously’ thrown down a 4m embankment in NSW.

Police are searching for a barefoot man who is accused of kidnapping a 75-year-old woman before “viciously” throwing her down a 4m embankment during a suspected domestic violence incident in the Snowy Mountains area on Tuesday.

Officers from Riverina Police District were called to the Snowy Mountains Highway at Talbingo at 3.30pm on Tuesday after reports a woman had been forced into a car and then thrown down an embankment.

Riverina Police District Detective Inspector Adrian Telfer said the man was known to police.

“We understand this elderly female was thrown down the embankment quite viciously, resulting in a number of serious injuries of which she is still recovering from in hospital,” he said.

Police with the help of the NSW State Emergency Service and Ambulance paramedics, and were able to rescue the 75-year-old woman.

She was found with bruising to her face and deep lacerations to her arms and legs and was taken to Wagga Base Hospital.

Police were told the woman was involved in an altercation earlier on Tuesday at Talbingo with the man, who police believe is a family member.

Police will allege the man dragged the woman to his car and drove along the Snowy Mountains Highway towards Talbingo mountain, before forcing her out of the vehicle and throwing her down a 4m embankment.

Inquiries are continuing and police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of the man, who is of caucasian appearance, aged in his 50s and approximately 175cm tall.

He is believed to be of a medium build with grey hair and blue eyes and he was barefoot at the time of the incident.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen the man in the area around the time of the incident to come forward with information.

“If you saw someone matching that description, someone who may have waved you down or who you may have collected, please come forward,” Det Insp Telfer said.

“We are worried about the man, and would like to speak with him.

“Police have since recovered the vehicle this woman was driven in, so we know he has left on foot or been picked up by someone and we are making every effort to find him.”
