One of Mr Ioane’s friends Freda Tuese told reporters they had been celebrating when the brawl started over “something petty, something little that happened inside the party”.

“We obviously did not know that this was going to happen,” she said, The Daily Telegraph reported.

“There was a fight inside and then it escalated onto the street.”

Ms Tuese said Mr Ioane’s family were in shock over his death, describing him as someone who was “bubbly, he was funny he was always happy”.

Police confirmed the teenager was found on the roadway with serious head injuries outside a house in Ingleburn in Sydney’s southwest overnight.

The NSW Police Riot Squad, the Dog Unit, the Rescue Squad as well as Campbelltown police were called to the Ingleburn residence just before 9.40pm on Friday, after reports of an altercation involving a large group of people.

According to police, the brawl is believed to have begun during a party at a home on Chester Road before spilling into the street, with more people arriving in vehicles, some armed with baseball bats.

“At this stage the exact nature of who attended and reason for attending will be part of inquiry,” Detective Chief Inspector Moroney said.

Police believe there were around 50 to 80 people attending the party, one that they described as a “chaotic scene”. Among those attending was the 18-year-old.

The man was treated by paramedics at the house before being rushed to Liverpool Hospital, where he was declared deceased.
