Man charged after allegedly throwing 75-year-old mother down a 4m embankment

A man is facing court after police found him hiding under a bed following an alleged domestic violence incident in the Snowy Mountains.

A man will face court today accused of kidnapping his 75-year-old mother and throwing her down a four-metre embankment in the Snowy Mountains.

Police attended a home on Elizabeth Ave at Talbingo at about 5.45pm on Thursday where they arrested a 54-year-old man who they allege was “hiding under a bed”.

He was taken to Tumut Police Station and charged with kidnapping with intent to commit a serious indictable offence occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence), assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), destroying or damaging property (DV), and driving with a suspended licence.

Police will allege in court the 54-year-old man had kidnapped the 75-year-old woman, his mother, before “viciously” throwing her down a 4m embankment during a domestic violence incident in the Snowy Mountains area on Tuesday.

He was barefoot at the time of the incident.

Police were told the man and the woman were involved in an altercation earlier that day at Talbingo.

Officers from Riverina Police District were called to the Snowy Mountains Highway at Talbingo at 3.30pm on Tuesday after reports of the alleged incident on the highway.

Police, with the help of the NSW State Emergency Service and Ambulance paramedics, were able to rescue the 75-year-old woman.

She was found with bruising to her face and deep lacerations to her arms and legs and was taken to Wagga Base Hospital.

The 54-year-old man has been refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today.
