A man has been charged after allegedly biting a large part of another man’s ear off in Sydney’s CBD.

Just before 11pm on Wednesday a 25-year-old man was waiting for a bus in Clarence Street, Sydney, when he was allegedly assaulted from behind by a man he knew.

Police said he was bitten on the ear and “a significant portion of the man’s ear became detached”.

They said a short fight broke out, before the man stole the 25-year-old’s wallet and fled the scene on foot.

The victim was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command set up a crime scene and following inquiries, officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command stopped a car on Adams Street, Frenchs Forest, about 2am on Thursday.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Manly Police Station.

He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent, and larceny.

The man was refused bail to appear at Manly Local Court today.
