Man accused of allegedly interfering with dead body following Canberra crash
A man is due in court following his shocking alleged actions after he was the passenger in a fatal crash.
A man is due to appear in court after allegedly interfering with a dead body following a fatal crash in Canberra’s north west last month.
Police have been investigating a 23-year-old Evatt man’s alleged actions after he was the passenger in a fatal single-vehicle crash on Kingsford Smith Drive in Melba on May 20.
Police will allege the man struck the body of the driver several times.
He also allegedly acted in an offensive manner towards witnesses, including threatening to kill a witness when they tried to calm him down.
The fatal crash occurred in Melba about 5.25pm when a car crossed the median strip and northbound carriageway before hitting a tree.
The driver appeared to die on impact.
The passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The man was summonsed to appear in court earlier this month to face three charges – inappropriately interfere with a dead human body, offensive behaviour and reckless threat to kill.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday where he will be formally charged.
