Lone Wolf bikie Yusuf Nazlioglu stole a Bentley from crime family before being shot dead in Sydney
Lone Wolf bikie Yusuf Nazlioglu was reportedly the mastermind behind a brazen extortion against a crime family before he was gunned down in front of his wife in Sydney.
Lone Wolf bikie Yusuf Nazlioglu was reportedly the mastermind of a brazen extortion against a well-known crime family before being executed in a targeted hit.
Mr Nazlioglu was shot dead in front of his new wife, Jade, after they arrived at their Rhodes apartment complex, west of the Sydney CBD, on Walker St about 6.30pm Monday.
Their vehicle was approached by an unknown man, who shot Mr Nazlioglu multiple times. The 40-year-old was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital, where he died around 7.15am Tuesday.
Underworld sources have since told The Daily Telegraph Nazlioglu had stolen a number of luxury cars, including a Bentley, from a rival criminal and was a marked man.
“It was only a matter of time. Sydney is a dangerous place at the minute man,” the source said.
Assistant Commissioner Jason Weinstein said police were also investigating a potential link between a “verbal argument” at a Brooklyn cemetery and Mr Nazlioglu’s death.
“Obviously it’s very widely reported that Yusuf Nazlioglu was acquitted of a homicide of Mick Hawi back in 2018 with the acquittal. We are exploring that. We do have some reports there was a verbal argument, in Brooklyn cemetery a few weeks ago,” he told Today.
“So that is one line of inquiry. These matters are complex. These individuals ingratiate themselves whether it’s in drug supply, whether it’s extortion offences, whether it’s other criminal activity, and that’s why it makes these investigations so complex.”
Mr Nazliogu was two years ago acquitted by a NSW Supreme Court jury of being behind the 2018 murder of Comanchero boss Mick Hawi outside the Rockdale Fitness First.
There is no suggestion Mr Hawi’s family had any connection to the death of Mr Nazlioglu.
Mr Nazlioglu was also convicted on an unrelated charge of possessing a prohibited firearm and sentenced to three years’ jail, before being released on parole in September last year.
A heavy police presence was seen in Rhodes following Monday’s shooting, with large areas being taped off to the public in the aftermath.
It is the latest in a string of violent incidents following a feud between the Alameddine and Hamzy organised crime groups.
Mr Nazlioglu was recorded by covert device while in prison boasting about threats to his life, The Daily Telegraph reported.
“I used to hear people outside were going to knock me, yeah?” Mr Nazlioglu was heard saying.
“I used to still leave my house, brother, knowing that one day someone’s going to sneak up on me and put one in my head.
“But I still f***ing went to the same hairdresser, went to the same f***ing restaurants, yeah. I still showed my face in front yard and hung out with boys at their porches at their houses, yeah, knowing I’m gunna get knocked one day.”
Superintendent Hayston said he “did not know” whether Mr Nazlioglu had a target on his back.
He also said he had no reason to “believe or disbelieve” whether this shooting was linked to any other incidents.
Mr Nazlioglu was raised in Sydney by his parents, who were originally from Turkey.
He spent seven years in jail between 2002 and 2009 for a vicious stabbing attack on a man who he did not know and had been walking with his wife and young child.
Mr Nazlioglu admitted to being on cocaine at the time of the offence.
Superintendent Hayston said police were providing support to Mr Nazlioglu’s family during this “traumatic” time.
“Obviously, when anyone loses a loved one, it’s very traumatic for them and we’re providing every bit of assistance we can,” he said.
