A woman with an intellectual disability has been left terrified after she was allegedly dragged into a car before being detained and repeatedly assaulted, including while being filmed in a shower.

The 20-year-old woman was travelling as a passenger in a car on the Pacific Highway at Charlestown, near Lake Macquarie, when another car – a Hyundai Elantra sedan – pulled up beside it at a red light.

Police will allege two people in the other vehicle, who were known to the woman, grabbed her and dragged her into the car before driving off.

The duo, a man and a 38-year-old woman, are accused of repeatedly assaulting the woman and stealing her credit cards.

Police will allege the car eventually stopped on George Booth Drive at West Wallsend before the older woman dragged the 20-year-old out of the car and continued to assault her on the street.

She was then forced back into the car and driven to a home in Windale where she was dragged into a shower and repeatedly assaulting while being filmed, police will allege.

Police were alerted to the incident after vision appeared on social media.

Emergency crews were called to the home at Windale where paramedics treated the 20-year-old woman before she was rushed to hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives searched a home at Box Place, Gateshead, about 7.30am Thursday where they seized a number of items including a Hyundai Elantra sedan.

A 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested at the property and taken to Belmont Police Station.

The man was charged with nine offences, including robbery, detaining a person, assault, breaching an AVO, stalking and intimidation and filming a person (in a private act) without consent.

The woman was charged with seven offences including robbery, assault and filming a person without consent.

Both were refused bail and will appear before Belmont Local Court on Friday.

Investigations are continuing.
