Criminal proceedings begin against son of Kristina Keneally

The son of former senator Kristina Keneally has been charged over allegations that he fabricated evidence during his duties as a police officer that led to a man’s wrongful imprisonment.

Daniel Keneally was investigated by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC) after allegations were made against him by a man wrongly accused of threatening to kill a police officer in a telephone call to Newtown Police Station in February 2021.

Luke Moore was imprisoned for three weeks before being given an official apology by the state. Now Mr Moore is suing the state of NSW for damages.

Constable Keneally allegedly falsified evidence against Mr Moore.

Mr Keneally's future employment with NSW Police has now been called into question.

He was charged with fabricating false evidence with the intent to mislead a judicial tribunal.

The 24-year-old will appear in court on November 17.

His employment status is under review.

The Office of the LECC Chief Commissioner said it had recommended advice be received from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The LECC will provide a report on the matter once the criminal proceedings have concluded.

“As criminal proceedings are now on foot, the commission will make no further comment concerning the matter,” the statement read.
