Hero pit bull saves woman from strangling
A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to strangle a woman before her pit bull interrupted, saving her life.
A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a 60-year-old woman in North Parramatta after he allegedly tried to strangle her before her pit bull stepped in, saving her life.
Police were called to Iron Street just after 4am on Sunday after the woman was woken by a man in the bedroom of her home.
Police allege Peni Naiserelagi, 34, allegedly assaulted the woman, Susan Bandera, and tried to strangle her before her pet dog ran into the room and attacked the man.
This interruption gave the woman time to run and hide in the bathroom, while her alleged attacker fled the scene.
Police launched an investigation and arrested Mr Naiserelagi, who is known to the woman, at a home on Victoria Rd in Parramatta about 10pm on the same day.
He was taken to Parramatta police station where he was charged with break, enter and assault with intent to murder.
The man was refused bail and to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Monday.
He did made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
Mr Naiserelagi will return to court on October 15.
