Girl, 13, found with welts and bruises after alleged abuse by woman known to her in Sydney

Child abuse detectives began investigating after reports a 13-year-old girl was being subjected to horrific abuse with a wire object.

A 13-year-old girl was found covered in injuries after allegedly being physically abused by a woman she knew in Sydney.

Child abuse detectives began an investigation last week after receiving reports of the alleged domestic violence in the city’s west.

“The girl sustained bruising, swelling and welts to her thighs, back and arms,” NSW Police said. “Police will allege in court that the woman assaulted the girl with a wire object at a home in Sydney’s west last week.”

A 50-year-old woman was arrested at Parramatta Police Station at 6pm on October 24.

She was charged with intent to commit an indictable offence and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence) before being granted strict conditional bail by police.

The woman is due to face Parramatta Local Court today.

The girl was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead for treatment but has since been released.
