Ex boyfriend charged over death of Lynda Greenwood in Como

The on-again, off-again boyfriend of Lynda Greenwood, who was found dead in a Sydney driveway on Tuesday, is accused of her horrific killing.

The on-again, off-again partner of a 39-year-old woman found dead in a suburban driveway has been charged with her murder.

Emergency services were called to an apartment block in Como, in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, about 12.30am on Tuesday after neighbours found the body of Lynda Greenwood.

She died at the scene, and detectives arrested a 39-year-old man, Ms Greenwood’s former partner, at a home in Sylvania just after 9.30am.

He was taken to Sutherland police station, charged with domestic violence related murder and refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday.

Ms Greenwood’s death has rocked the usually peaceful street, with neighbour Kathleen Mason telling reporters on Tuesday everyone she had spoken to was “absolutely horrified”.

“We can’t believe it’s happened,” she said.

Ms Mason said the night of Ms Greenwood’s death she had heard “a high-pitched screaming and crying sound”, likening it to the sound a crying baby would make.

Police confirmed on Tuesday Ms Greenwood had an AVO out against her accused killer at the time of her death, and had suffered extensive wounds to the upper half of her body.

“I can confirm that they were involved in an on-and-off-again relationship, and there was a current apprehended violence order in place for the protection of the deceased until 2021,” Sutherland Shire Police Area Command Superintendent Jason Box said.

The officer said early investigations suggested Ms Greenwood had been killed in the driveway of the apartment block, where she had been flat sharing with others, and that a murder weapon was yet to be found.

“Extremely tragic, domestic violence,” Superintendent Box said.

“The loss of any life is tragic and especially under these circumstances (where) it involved neighbours who unfortunately had to involve themselves, and then there’s the family …”

Friend Sean King paid tribute to Ms Greenwood on Facebook, saying the woman was “a beautiful soul taken way too soon”.

“You will be GREATLY MISSED Lynda Greenwood,” he wrote.

“A couple of beautiful years together, that I‘ll never forget, and many years after that as a great friend.

Mr King said his friend’s beautiful smile and personality would “light up any room she walked into”.

“Just an amazing person,” he continued. “If the world had more like you, it would truly be a much better place.

“You will NEVER be forgotten.”
