Harrowing details have emerged of how a young boy screamed for his life during a brutal attack by a gang of youths on a popular beachside street.

The large brawl involving around 40 teenagers broke out at Manly Wharf at 9pm on Monday, with police seizing a knife at the scene, and was captured on video by the Manly Observer.

Two locals, Simon and Renee, took to social media to describe how a young boy was “kicked in the head”, leaving him fearing for his life.

They said a large group of “youths” set upon one boy, believed to be 13 or 14 years old, “punching and kicking him in the head”.

“Renee ran over and grabbed him (the boy),” Simon said.

“He was literally screaming for his life.

“Somehow we managed to run him across to the bus shelter where we all took another kicking.”

The pair said they rushed him into nearby restaurant Fratelli Fresh on West Esplanade, where the young boy took shelter.

“Renee guarded one door from his attackers, and I guarded the other,” Simon said.

The couple reminded parents that these incidents can happen anywhere.

“Parents, please educate your kids that this can happen in Manly,” Simon said.

“Tell them to run into the nearest restaurant or bar. It might save them from a very bad ending.”

Social media users praised the couple online.

“Wow, they most likely saved a life,” one person said on Facebook.

“Terrifying. Thank you for looking after him,” another wrote.

Fratelli Fresh couldn’t comment on the details of the incident, but said they were proud of how staff handled the situation.

“We are incredibly proud of our team at Fratelli Fresh Manly for their calm and caring response in such a challenging situation,” it said.

Police confirmed they attended the scene but no arrests were made.

“Upon arrival, police were told about 40 people, many of whom were believed to be juveniles, were fighting,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Most of the people left the scene once officers arrived and no one reported injuries.

“A knife was located on the ground and seized.

“Police assisted in dispersing the remaining people from the area.”
