Camden: Alleged thief reached 150km/h during police chase after break and enter
An alleged thief reached speeds so frightening during a chase through western Sydney that police had to call off the pursuit.
A man will face court charged after attempted break-ins on two homes in the Camden area as well as a police pursuit through western Sydney in which he allegedly reached 150km/h.
Camden Police Area Command officers were investigating reports three men had attempted to break into a home on Caley Way, Mt Annan, before 4am on Tuesday and a home on Dodonea Circuit, Mt Annan, at about 5.30am.
Police were also told two men entered a home on Hawthorne Circuit, Harrington Park, at 6.30am while the owner was still in the home. They are alleged to have stolen a wallet and car keys but left the owner’s black Audi TT.
Police will allege a third male fled the scene in a white Mazda CX5, which had been reported stolen from Lindfield last Saturday, before it was spotted on Bougainville Road, Lethbridge Park at 9.20am.
Officers ordered the 24-year-old driver to stop but he allegedly took off. A chase was initiated, with the Mazda reaching speeds of 150km/h in a 50km/h zone. The pursuit was then ended because of a safety risk.
The Mazda was then sighted a short time later on Marquesa Crescent before pulling into a carpark, where police say the driver got out and ran.
After a short pursuit, the 24-year-old Bidwill man was arrested and taken to Mt Druitt police station.
He was charged with 12 offences, including initiating a police pursuit (not stop) while driving dangerously, aggravated break and enter and resisting an officer in the execution of duty,
He has been bail refused to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court on Wednesday.
