Sydney man shot dead in city's fifth public shooting inside a single week

Police are investigating a targeted shooting in Sydney’s southwest after a bullet was fired into a home, as officers crack down on a spate of violent attacks.

Emergency services were called to Stanley St in Fairfield Heights about 4.30pm on Sunday following reports a shot was fired from a parked car.

Police were told a man had approached the car when a single shot was fired before passing through the front door of a nearby home and into an internal wall.

The 20-year-old man was not injured in the attack and fled the scene as the occupants of the car allegedly gave chase. A short time later, the car also left.

A silver Mercedes sedan which had been reported stolen in July was found alight about 5.30pm only an eight minute drive away on Chowne Pl in Yennora.

Officers from Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, and the vehicle was towed by police for further examination to determine if the incidents are linked.

Police established crime scenes at both locations and have spoken to the 20-year-0ld who officers claim his not assisting detectives with their investigation.

A number of people were also spoken to at the scene, which has been canvased.

The sole occupant of the home was injured in the attack.

Initial investigations have led police to believe the shooting was yet another targeted attack, following a spate of shootings across Sydney’s southwest.

Last month, NSW Police established Task Force Magnus to investigate the attacks, which included the shooting of lawyer Mahmoud Abbas in Greenacre.

Abbas is not alleged to have any connection to the shootings.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about either incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
