A 21-year-old woman has been charged with dangerous and negligent driving after a boy suffered “serious leg injuries” when he was hit by a car in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Emergency services rushed to the intersection of Nelson and Oxford streets in Bondi Junction at 3.25pm on Friday.

NSW Police say the boy was riding his scooter when he was struck.

“Police were told the 10-year-old boy was crossing the road when he was hit by the car,” the force said in a statement on Saturday.

“The boy suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.”

The 21-year-old female driver returned a negative result to a roadside breath test but she was arrested by investigating officers and taken to nearby Waverley Police Station.

The young woman has been charged with one count each of dangerous and negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm.

She was granted conditional bail and is due to face Waverley Local Court on January 19.
