Alleged gunman and ‘hired help’ arrested over Kirribilli shooting near PM’s Sydney residence
An alleged gunman and another man have been arrested over a Kirribilli shooting that targeted a man with links to organised crime and bikies last year.
Two men have been arrested over an alleged failed assassination plot that targeted a 37-year-old man with links to organised crime and bikies in Kirribilli last year.
Police allege two men were crossing Upper Pitt St in the harbourside suburb when they were ambushed by a person dressed in black about 4.10pm on October 25, 2023.
The person allegedly fired several shots at the 37-year old man, who police say was “very” well known to them and fled the scene injured.
North Shore Police Area Command officers found the man, who had a minor leg wound, but he refused any medical treatment.
The alleged attack happened 600m from the Prime Minister’s Sydney residence.
A Ford Ranger was found alight in a car park on Raymond Road in Neutral Bay a short time later.
Police allege two men were seen getting out of the Ford Ranger and setting it alight before they got into an orange Holden Commodore sedan and fled the scene.
The Holden Commodore was found burnt out about 27km away on Harris Street in Harris Park the following day.
Crime scenes were established at all three locations, which police believed were all linked.
The State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad took over the investigation under Strike Force Marlton.
Following an extensive investigation, three teenagers and a man were arrested this week. Police allege they were the ‘hired help’ used to destroy getaway vehicles in the shooting, along with a 19-year old man police allege was the gunman.
Strike force detectives, the Financial Crime Squad’s Motor Unit and the South West Metropolitan Operational Support Group raided two properties in Guildford and Merrylands about 6am on Tuesday.
An 18-year old was arrested in Guildford and taken to Auburn Police Station where he was charged with shooting at with an intent to murder, destroying property in company using fire greater than $5000, and participating in a criminal group.
Another 18-year-old was arrested in Merrylands, he was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with destroying property in company using fire greater than $5000 and participating in a criminal group.
Both men were refused bail and appeared in a children’s court on Tuesday.
A 19-year-old man was arrested in South Wentworthville, he was taken to Parramatta Police Station and charged with shooting at with intent to murder and participating in a criminal group.
He was refused bail and appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday.
A vehicle was stopped in Yagoona by strike force detectives, Raptor Squad Traffic and Highway Patrol officers about 2pm on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old driver was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with damaging property by fire or explosion.
He was granted conditional bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.
Police allege the men were hired help to stage and destroy the vehicles used in the shooting.
A 19-year-old man police believe was the gunman in the shooting was arrested on Thursday and taken to Riverstone Police Station where he was charged with intent to murder and destroying property in company using fire greater than $5000.
He was refused bail.
