Woman charged over alleged fake robbery at Sydney store Germani Jewellery

Another person has been charged over the alleged fake robbery on a high-profile jewellery store.

A woman has been charged over her alleged role in an armed robbery at a Sydney jewellery store which police allege the owner orchestrated.

The Germani Jewellery store, located on George St in Sydney’s CBD, was hit by an armed robbery on the evening of January 19.

Police allege 65-year-old store owner Michel Germani was in the store with a 47-year-old woman employee when two male customers entered for an appointment.

A short time later, one of the customers allegedly threatened the woman with a knife, while the other man allegedly threatened Mr Germani and demanded access to the safe.

Both Mr Germani and the staff member were allegedly restrained before the two men left the store.

Police revealed on Friday Giulia Penna had been charged over her alleged involvement in the robbery.

The 57-year-old woman was arrested at Burwood Police Station on Friday and charged with aggravated robbery and deprives person of liberty, accessory before the fact, and participate criminal group contribute criminal.

She was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court, where the matter was adjourned to next week.

Mr Germani was earlier this month accused of orchestrating the robbery on his store in an attempt to defraud his insurer.

$2.8 million in jewellery was allegedly stolen.

He was charged with aggravated robbery and depriving a person of liberty, attempting to dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, publishing false misleading material to obtain property, and participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity.

Mr Germani remains on custody and before the courts.

According to court documents, he is accused of making a false statement after the robbery and intended to claim insurance worth more than $2.8m.

During Mr Germani’s bail application earlier this week, the court was told the $2.8m in stolen jewellery is still missing.
